In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic we had seen people suffering from financial crisis to fulfill all their medical needs and other assistance and that at time our Hon’ble Prime minister had asked all the citizens to donate as much as possible to the The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (i.e. PM CARES Fund) so that more and more people could be helped using the fund received.
Many of us have contributed to the PM cares fund and many private or government companies have contributed to such funds wherein all the employees had also contributed to such funds in small amounts.
Let’s discuss about the basic details of the PM Cares fund and then we shall discuss about the taxation details of the PM cares fund:
PM CARES Fund is a public charitable trust. It has been set up keeping in mind the need for having a dedicated fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected.
The Prime Minister is Chairperson (ex-officio) of the PM CARES Fund and Minister of Defence, Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Finance, Government of India are ex-officio Trustees of the Fund. All the Trustees of the PM CARES Fund act in a pro bono capacity.
PM CARES Fund has been registered as a Public Charitable Trust. The trust deed of PM CARES Fund has been registered under the Registration Act, 1908 at New Delhi on 27th March, 2020.
The Head Office of the Fund is Prime Minister’s Office, South Block, New Delhi.
Any donation made of PM cares fund will be eligible for 100% (without limit) deduction under section 80G of the Income tax Act. No deduction shall be eligible for making donation to PM cares fund under the new regime for individuals and as well companies (for companies from AY 2021-22).
Now let’s talk about the taxation details i.e. PAN and Address in relation to PM cares fund which would be required by individuals/ companies who have made contribution to PM cares fund to claim deduction under section 80G:

Although all this information is available on the donation receipt when a person makes donation to PM cares fund, however many a times employees who have made contribution through their company don’t get such details form their company and hence this would be helpful to many people.

Contributions can be made by following modes:-
- Net Banking (SBI and other commercial Banks)
- Card Payments – SBI ATM-cum-Debit Card, Other Bank Debit Cards, Credit Card, Prepaid Card, Foreign Card
- Other Payment mode: SBI Branch, NEFT/RTGS
Contributions can also be made online through the dedicated portal – pmcares.gov.in as well as the portal of PMO i.e. pmindia.gov.in. One can also contribute through the portals of the collection banks.
Further, cheque or demand draft drawn in favour of ‘PM CARES Fund’ can be sent to Under Secretary (Funds), PMO, South Block, New Delhi, Pin -110011 along with Name, Address, Mobile No. and E-mail ID of the donor.
The process flow and timeline of generation of receipts through various modes of transaction is given as below:-
‘Print Receipt’ Section → Select the Channel used for donation → Enter Mobile No. and Bank Reference Number → Enter the OTP received on Mobile number → Download Receipt
