Income Tax e-filing website sending messages to CA | 30.04.2022 last date to update UDIN on e-filing website

The below mentioned mail is being received by the Chartered Accountant registered as such on Income Tax Portal and who have filed any form on Income Tax portal wherein updating UDIN is required.

In the below mentioned message it has been mentioned that the last date to update pending UDIN is 30.04.2022.

Dear User,

As per records, Income Tax Department has noticed that some Forms are pending for UDIN update on e-Filing Portal.

Kindly update UDIN against pending forms on or before 30th April 2022.

To update UDIN, login to e-Filing portal, go to e-File menu -> Income Tax Forms -> View/ Update UDIN Details.

You can update UDIN for one Form at a time OR for multiple Forms using bulk UDIN upload feature.

Things to know before updating UDIN:

  1. Cross check the Form number and AY with ICAI UDIN portal, before updating UDIN on e-filing Portal
  2. Cross check the PAN of Assessee(if provided on UDIN portal), before updating UDIN
  3. UDIN should not be consumed against any other Form
  4. If you are filing a revised Form, then generate a new UDIN from UDIN portal
  5. You will be able to update UDIN under ‘View/ Update UDIN Details’ screen, only after the Form is accepted by Assessee.

What will happen if UDIN not validated on e-filing portal?

In the FAQ issued it has been mentioned that if a person fails to update UDIN on e-filing portal the forms for which UDIN has not been updated such form will be considered as invalid i.e. it has never been filed.

“What will happen to the form if the CA uploads without UDIN or fails to update the UDIN within 15 calendar days, but the form uploaded has been accepted by the taxpayer?

The form uploaded will be treated as invalid with all due consequences of law attracted.”

It is important to note that the forms have been filed by the professional Chartered Accountant on e-filing portal, accepted by the client or assessee and then also if the UDIN is not updated or validated on e-filing portal then the form will be invalidated and this is because option/ facility to mention UDIN at the time of filing the form on e-filing portal was not available as e-filing portal was not working properly and because of which now professionals have to again work and update/ validate UDIN.

Recently relaxation in UDIN Verification Parameters at Income tax e-filing Portal was announced after various users were facing issue in validating UDIN on e-filing portal.
