GST was introduced in July 2017 and that is when people had filed their first GST return.
Now today data of electronic liability register for July 2017 has been removed from GSTN portal and same is not available for viewing.
No where in law it is mentioned that GSTN would preserve data for 3 Years only but while viewing the Electronic Liability Register the Portal is showing “Maximum period for viewing ledger is 3 years.”
Now it’s high time to start taking data backup for earlier period as it would be quiet helpful during the assessment stage.
This action might be taken for lack of storage space but no prior intimation was given.
We also need to check whether even GST return data is being removed or is it only Electronic liability register because if that’s the case then as mentioned above it will be very difficult at the assessment stage.
As of now you can access your GST return data for July 2017 but it’s high time that you must take back up of all your data.
Also GST portal has updated that they will surely resume the services to file GST return for July 2017.
Till now people were facing issues with filing of return on GST portal and now the data provided on GST portal is not being stored for more than 3 years. If this is how GST is going to work it is going to be very difficult for people to adjust with it.
Further, CBIC is planning for E-invoicing where people will generate invoice online for which they have said that they have separate servers but looking at the current scenario and deleting of data government should first solve this issue and then move to E-invoicing.
Let’s hope government fixes this problem.
