Earlier vide notification 74/2019 Dt. 26.12.2019 late fee was waived for GSTR 1 from July 2017 to November 2019 if same were filed till 10.01.2020.
Now a tweet was made by Ministry of finance extending the above due date to 17.01.2020. They have mentioned that this step has been taken because of overwhelming response and to reduce unmatched of Input tax credit.
Apparently 54 lakh GSTR 1 were filed till 09.01.2020 as compared to previous average of 25 lakh monthly GSTR 1.
One reason of such extension would be server was not able to take load and many people were not able to file their GSTR 1 today as is the usual case and hence the date has been extended. In all its a welcome move by Ministry of Finance.
